GSK is a global biopharma company operating across 70 countries, with more than 66,000 people worldwide. Its graduate programme helps early career professionals develop their skills through meaningful work, structured development, mentoring and experience across the organisation.
The GSK Graduate Summer Boat Party brought colleagues together for a relaxed social event on the River Thames. It provided an opportunity for graduates to step away from their everyday working environment, strengthen professional relationships and celebrate their shared experience within the company.
The Photo Team was invited to provide professional corporate summer party photography, documenting the occasion while ensuring the resulting images remained polished, natural and appropriate for a globally recognised organisation.
A corporate summer party needs to feel relaxed, but the photography cannot become casual or inconsistent.
The challenge was to capture the energy and enjoyment of the event while maintaining the professional standards expected when representing the GSK brand. Guests needed to feel comfortable in front of the camera, and the photography needed to reflect genuine interaction rather than a series of repetitive or overly staged photographs.
Working aboard a moving boat also created practical considerations. Available space was limited, people moved continuously between different areas, lighting conditions changed throughout the journey, and important moments could happen anywhere on board.

The photography began with establishing images of the boat, event details and guests arriving. As the party progressed, the emphasis shifted towards natural interaction, informal group photographs and candid moments that communicated the social character of the occasion.
Rather than waiting passively for photographs to happen, our photographer engaged confidently with guests, brought groups together when appropriate and recognised the moments that would best represent the experience.
